The First Anniversary of Maldivian’s International operations and top agent award function was held at Trivandrum, capital city of Kerala, God’s Own Country in February 2009.
Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, Minister of Civil Aviation & Communication and Mr. Fazil, Director, Civil Aviation were present on the occasion. Earlier, speaking to Tourism Maldives magazine, Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed said, “The Indian Government has been very considerate on many issues and as a result, the Maldives recently announced a change in its aviation policy. The past aviation policy was a restrictive one and only one Maldivian airlines was designated to fly from Maldives to other nations. Now domestically, the competition is open and various airlines have been competing for that. With the change in policy, we hope that airlines other than Maldivian will be able to fly from the Maldives to other destinations.”
He also said that there is a demand in the Maldives to fly to preferred destinations nearby which are Trivandrum, Bangalore, Colombo and Kochi. “Maldivian or any other Indian airline can start this service,” he said.
Mr. Bandhu Ibrahim Saleem, MD, Island Aviation, Mr. Mohammed Zaheer, Director, Commercial, Maldivian, Mr. Mohammed Saleem and Mr. Mushthaq, Managers of Maldivian, Mr. Stanley, Representative-India, Island Aviation Services, Mr. Premkumar, Manager, Spencers Travels, GSA for Island Aviation also participated.
Air Travel Enterprises won the first place in the top agent award, followed by ITL Tours and Travels in second place, and both Riya Travel & Tours and Akbar Travels of India in third place. Lawson Tours and Travels, MK Air Travel Consultant and Creative Tours and Travels won appreciation awards.
