Following its selection as a finalist in the ‘New Seven Wonders of Nature’ of the world, Maldives officially launched the campaign in Male on October 3, 2009 during the Tourism Day Celebrations.
Dr. Ahmed Ali Sawad, Minister of Tourism Arts and Culture launched the event which was attended by members of the cabinet, other VIPs, local people and tourists. They voted for Maldives to become one of the New7 Wonders of Nature in the world.
A cultural and music performance was the highlight of the campaign launch. This National level campaign will continue in various locations in the Maldives and abroad throughout 2010 and 2011.
Maldives is competing with 27 interesting and fascinating locations of the world to become one of seven natural wonders. The results of over 1 billion votes will be announced at the Official Declaration event in 2011.
