Set on the tropical island of Hadahaa in the North Huvadhoo Atoll, believed to be one of the largest and deepest natural Atolls in the world, the newly opened Alila Villas Hadahaa resort offers the ultimate Maldivian experience of a tranquil setting, turquoise-azure waters and fine white beaches. Adhering to set standards during the design and construction stage through to resort operations, the Alila Villas Hadahaa is the first resort in the Maldives to receive Green Globe certification.
The resort maintains environmental sensitivity with an innovative contemporary design that keeps to Green Globe’s rigorous ‘Building, Planning and Design Standard’ benchmarks. Alila Villas Hadahaa is designed by Yale-trained and Singapore-based architect Mr. Chan Soo Khian of SCDA Architects.
“I relate to Alila’s operating philosophy of creating an ecological and luxurious resort. The island sites at the southern atoll of the Maldives are spectacular locales with excellent diving,” said Mr. Chan Soo Khian.
To commemorate and celebrate its August 2009 opening, Alila Villas Hadahaa launched a “Gift-to-Share” programme. A community effort that encourages guests to give, this programme offers guests an option to share the ‘Gift’ by allowing them to choose whichever amount they wish to donate in support of building up a reference and research library in the local schools for the Maldivian children, re-introducing Maldivian traditional crafts into primary schools; and introducing community farming projects – three Maldivian community programmes that the resort has initiated.

“We count ourselves fortunate to be able to build such a beautiful property on the previously untouched Gaafu Alifu Atoll, and we seek to involve and give back as much as we possibly can to its equally lovely community,” says Mr. Julian Moore, the General Manager of the Alila Villas Hadahaa.
The resort has 50 villas – 14 stilted, over-water Aqua Villas and 36 Island Villas, 20 of which come with private pool. All afford stunning ocean views and come with facilities like a spacious, open-air wood deck, an LCD flat panel TV, Wi-Fi Internet access, a CD/DVD player, an iPod docking station, a tea/espresso machine and a mini-bar stocked according to personal taste.
There are also five Spa Villas, where guests can take steam showers, enjoy an extensive range of rejuvenation treatments or unwind in outdoor gazebos, tubs and rain showers. The Alila Villas Hadahaa Leisure Conciege is on hand to help guests enjoy on-resort activities and plan excursions or organise events. In-resort facilities include island-wide Wi-Fi access, a library with star-gazing roof, the Alila Living Boutique, two swimming pools, a fully-equipped gym, Poolside & Cigar bars and a Maldivian speciality restaurant offering a sampling of local and regional cuisine. Environmental impact studies were used to guide the resort design, ensuring the ecological footprint left by this luxurious complex is kept to a minimum.
