The Maldives welcomed 224,455 tourists in December 2025, setting a new single-month record for visitor arrivals. This figure eclipsed the previous high of 217,392 visitors recorded in February 2024.
Official statistics reveal that December 28 saw the strongest daily traffic of the year, with 9,903 arrivals -a testament to sustained demand during the peak holiday season. The exceptional performance underscores the archipelago nation’s enduring popularity as a premier travel destination.
Beyond monthly achievements, 2025 proved to be a landmark year for Maldivian tourism overall. Travel receipts are projected to surpass USD 5.4 billion, exceeding the government’s USD 5 billion target. Data from the Maldives Monetary Authority shows tourism revenue climbed 15.8% compared to 2024, demonstrating the sector’s resilience despite worldwide economic headwinds.
Annual visitor arrivals grew by approximately 9.8%, with corresponding increases in overnight stays across major source markets. The expansion of hotel capacity through newly opened resorts and guesthouses has bolstered the country’s accommodation infrastructure, positioning the Maldives favorably for continued tourism growth in the years ahead.
