Conrad Maldives Rangali Island has reached a significant environmental milestone by earning the prestigious PADI Eco Center certification, becoming one of only two luxury resorts in the Maldives to receive this distinguished recognition in 2025. This achievement marks a pivotal moment in the resort’s ongoing commitment to marine conservation and sustainable tourism, demonstrating that luxury hospitality and environmental responsibility can successfully coexist.

The PADI Eco Center certification is not merely a title but a testament to dive resorts that exceed conventional operational standards by actively protecting ocean ecosystems and fostering environmental awareness among guests. This recognition reflects the dedication of the Conrad Maldives team, who have implemented comprehensive conservation initiatives and sustainable practices throughout their operations.
Central to this achievement was the resort’s participation in PADI’s Adopt the Blue program, through which the team formally adopted the Conrad House Reef. As part of this initiative, the dive team organized a Dive Against Debris cleanup operation around the reef near the resort’s iconic Ithaa Underwater Gem. During this environmental action, the team successfully removed 10 kilograms of marine debris, consisting primarily of plastic materials and metal fragments that pose serious threats to marine life and reef ecosystems.

The resort’s environmental journey expanded further in June 2025 when the team partnered with Green Fins, an internationally recognized conservation initiative. Since joining, Conrad Maldives has revolutionized its dive center operations by implementing numerous sustainable practices designed to minimize environmental impact. These changes include transitioning to completely paperless dive check-in procedures, conducting comprehensive eco-briefings before every marine excursion, significantly reducing plastic consumption by offering glass bottle alternatives, and installing prominent educational signage throughout the dive center to promote responsible snorkeling and diving behaviors among guests.
Beyond operational improvements, the marine team has developed innovative ways to engage guests directly in conservation efforts. A particularly successful initiative has been the coral restoration program, which has already facilitated 17 coral line adoptions during the current year. This hands-on program invites guests to participate in meaningful environmental work by attending educational sessions that explain reef ecology and restoration techniques before personally attaching coral fragments to underwater nursery lines. This immersive experience transforms guests from passive observers into active participants in ocean conservation.

Jessica Miller, Marine Biologist at Conrad Maldives, expressed her enthusiasm about the certification, describing it as a significant milestone resulting from dedicated teamwork and genuine ocean stewardship. She emphasized that witnessing guests become part of the conservation solution through activities like coral planting and learning about local marine ecosystems represents the most rewarding aspect of their work.

Nick Flynn, General Manager of Conrad Maldives, highlighted the team’s exceptional achievement and emphasized that this milestone represents part of the resort’s long-term sustainability commitment. He stressed that this certification perfectly demonstrates how luxury hospitality and environmental responsibility can successfully complement each other, creating experiences that are both indulgent and purposeful.
The PADI Eco Center certification aligns seamlessly with Conrad Maldives’ comprehensive sustainability vision and supports Hilton’s Travel with Purpose program, which promotes responsible tourism across the global hotel chain. Looking forward, the resort plans to expand its offerings of educational diving experiences, coral adoption programs, and conservation briefings that encourage guests to engage more deeply with purpose-driven travel initiatives.

Ranjit Batra, CEO of Ventive Hospitality, the parent company of Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, underscored the broader significance of this recognition. He noted that the PADI Eco Center certification exemplifies the company’s dedication to protecting marine ecosystems while simultaneously shaping the future of responsible travel. Batra expressed pride in Conrad’s leadership role in advancing sustainability standards across the Maldives, affirming Ventive Hospitality’s commitment to fostering responsible tourism throughout the region.
